Welcome to the Kitchener-Waterloo Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society!
Class times from September to April are Tuesdays from 7:30 to 9:30pm.
Classes are held in Historic St. Paul’s Church, Queen and Church Streets, Kitchener (ION Stop: Benton or Queen). Visit our Classes page for more details.
Hope to see you there!
Hello again everyone,
The COVID-19 situation has changed a lot since our last post on March 14, cancelling classes until April 7. Your Committee of Management has now made the inevitable decision to cancel the rest of our dance season, no surprise to anyone, I'm sure. We will assess later about fall plans and keep you up to date.
Social distancing from everyone is hard but hopefully by taking this action now we will all be able to stay well and get back to normal sooner. Kathryn has asked us to post a list of dances that have either been cancelled or postponed as she knows some of our members had expressed interest in them:
- The West End Workshop- March 28
- The Border Cities Workshop- March 28
- The John Middleton Ball- April 4
- Sarnia Tea Dance- April 18
- St. Catherine's Spring Ball- May 2
If you are missing Scottish Country Dancing, you can still practice your steps and enjoy the music while you dance around your house. Check out various dance groups and musicians on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. The RSCDS also has video tutorials on their website. Music and dancing are good for the body and soul, so keep at it!
Take care, stay well, follow the advice of your public health people, and we look forward to seeing you on the dance floor soon.
Annual General Meeting
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, our Annual General Meeting, originally scheduled for April 21, 2020 is postponed to a date to be determined.
We will be hosting our 2020 Ball on November 7, 2020 in partnership with the Blair Scottish Country Dance Group to celebrate "100 Years years of Scottish Country Dancing" in Waterloo Region - the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the Kitchener-Waterloo group and the 40th Anniversary of the founding of the Blair Group. Please see the flyer and ball program below.
John Raymond Dugan 1935 - 2020
It is with great sadness that we share the news that Ray Dugan passed away on the morning of Sunday, March 1, 2020. Ray was a longtime member and teacher of our group as well as a deviser of many Scottish country dances. We will miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sylvia and his family.
