Demonstration 2003 May
A cold wind, an overcast sky and a few threatening drops of rain convinced organizers of the second annual Scottish Festival at Castle Kilbride to bring the festivities indoors Saturday. Despite the weather and the move inside, the turnout was "really good," said Castle curator Tracy Loch. Visitors toured Castle Kilbride or jammed every corner of the township administration complex where everything Scottish was on display. The McCarrel Sisters entertain an appreciative audience enthralled by the sights, sounds and tastes of the Scottish Festival, including a performance by the K-W Royal Scottish Country Dancers.

A few improvisations had tae be worked out in the kitchen. The haggis, fresh out of the oven, was slidin’ around the giant tray like a greased pig. I knew that Great Chieftain would make a break for it at the most inopportune time, to the shock of the assembled guests. So a tin foil basket was fashioned to secure a better purchase for the lively puddin’. Then sneakin’ the trencher from the kitchen to the foyer where the piper awaited, unseen, I hoped, by the guests then focused on the introductions ...
