Claire discovered Scottish Country Dance in April 2016 with the Lyon Branch in France. Initially, as a flute player, her goal was simply to find musicians to play with, but she was so captivated by the dancing that she decided to stick with it! After a break from late 2019 to early 2023 – due to injury, the pandemic, and her move to Northern Quebec in 2021 – she was thrilled to return to dancing when she relocated to the Kitchener-Waterloo area in 2023.
Claire has attended many Scottish Country Dance events in Europe, Australia, the USA, and Canada. In addition to dancing, Claire serves on various committees in the Scottish Country Dance community, including organizing international events, and leading teams to compete in the Newcastle Festival competition. In Summer 2024, Claire completed the first parts of the Scottish Country Dance Teaching Certificate in Scotland, and began teaching with the KW branch.
What Claire loves most about Scottish Country Dance, beyond the joy it brings her personally, is the sense of connection it fosters. It is incredible to see how this dance tradition unites people from all over the world, and she is grateful for every opportunity to meet new dancers and share in the experience.
